평택시, 환경교육도시 선언

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=평택 이현준기자] 평택시는 26일 '환경교육도시'를 준비하기 위한 본격적인 도약을 선언했다.

이날 평택시 우정식 기후환경국장은 인류가 직면한 기후 위기와 환경문제의 심각성을 깊이 인식하며, 우리 도시가 지속 가능한 미래를 위한 변화의 선두에 설 것을 선언했으며, 환경교육도시 조성을 위한 주요 실천 과제로 ▲평택시민 누구나 함께하는 환경교육 실시 ▲참여형 환경교육 플랫폼 구축 ▲미래세대를 선도하는 지구시민육성 ▲다양한 환경교육 콘텐츠 개발 등 4대 전략을 발표했다. 또한 내년도에 바뀌는 제4차 국가 및 도 환경교육계획을 반영하여 평택시 환경교육계획도 새롭게 수립할 방침이다.

환경교육도시는 지역의 환경 교육 활성화를 위해 2022년부터 매년 환경부가 환경 교육 관련 우수 지자체를 지정(3년간)하는 제도로, 환경교육도시로 지정되면 환경부의 행정적‧재정적 지원을 받게 된다. 평택시는 2025년 9월 현재 환경교육도시를 위한 1차 서면 심사를 통과하고 현장평가를 마쳤다.

평택시는 환경교육도시 선언 외에도 환경교육주간(9.20.~9.27.)을 맞아 '기후시민과 일구는 환경교육도시 평택'을 주제로 환경교육포럼, 체험부스, 전시회 등 환경 교육 한마당 행사를 진행했다.
