시는 19일 하안동에 위치한 광명문화원 리모델링 공사 준공식을 개최했다.

이번 사업은 사업비 76억 원을 들여 지하 1층, 지상 2층, 연면적 2천733㎡ 규모로 진행됐으며, 기존(연면적 2천339㎡) 대비 약 16.8%의 면적이 증축됐다. 내부 정비를 마치고 오는 9월부터 본격 운영할 예정이다.

광명문화원은 1995년 개원 이후, 2005년 하안동 청사로 이전하며 전통문화 계승, 문화교육 프로그램 운영 등 다양한 지역문화 활동을 이어 왔다. 하지만 시설 노후화로 인한 누수, 단열 미비, 외부 진출입로 안전 문제 등으로 이용에 불편이 있었고, 시민 문화 수요가 다변화되면서 공간의 기능적 재구성이 필요성이 제기돼 리모델링을 추진했다.

이번 리모델링의 핵심은 시민을 위한 공간 확충이다. 특히 활용도가 낮았던 기존 야외공간을 실내 소통 공간으로 바꿔, 시민들이 날씨에 구애받지 않고 일상 문화 활동과 휴식을 즐길 수 있도록 했다.
