이날 열린 간담회는 북한이탈주민의 안정적인 정착과 자립을 지원하기 위해 마련됐다.

이상일 시장은 간담회에 참석해 지역내 유관기관·단체 관계자들과 각 기관이 북한이탈주민을 지원하는 현황과 사례를 듣고, 실질적인 지원 방안을 논의했다.

이상일 시장은 “북한이탈주민의 지원을 위해서는 도시 구성원의 협업체계 구축을 통한 노력이 필요하다는 제안이 있었고, 이들의 실상을 파악하고 실질적으로 도움을 줄 수 있는 방안을 논의하기 위해 간담회를 열었다”며 “용인의 기관과 단체 관계자가 모여 북한이탈주민을 지원하기 위한 지혜를 모으는 것은 의미있는 일”이라고 말했다.

이 시장은 “북한이탈주민들이 한국에 정착하는 과정에서 현실에 와닿지 않거나 실제 겪지 않은 부분에서 우리가 알지 못하는 부분이 있다”며 “오늘 개최한 간담회는 북한이탈주민이 원활하게 우리 사회에 정착할 수 있도록 돕는 방안을 마련하는 자리가 되기를 바란다”고 했다.
