시는 이를 위해 17일 오후 시청 대회의실에서 ‘지속가능관광 활성화 방안 모색을 위한 토론회’를 개최했다.

이 자리에는 박승원 광명시장을 비롯해 지속가능관광 관련 전문가, 교수, 관련 부서 공무원, 관광에 관심 있는 시민 등 80여 명이 참석해 ‘광명시 지속가능관광 활성화 용역’의 중간보고를 듣고 광명형 지속가능관광 발전 방향을 함께 논의했다.

용역 보고회에서는 광명시가 성공적으로 추진해 나가고 있는 정책인 ‘평생학습’과 ‘탄소중립’의 인적, 물적 자원을 활용한 지속가능관광 콘텐츠 개발 방안이 소개됐다.

광명시는 평생학습원, 업사이클아트센터, 환경교육센터 등 다양한 기반 시설과 함께, 이와 관련한 시민 교육으로 양성된 전문 인력을 보유하고 있어 이를 관광 콘텐츠와 연계할 수 있는 강점을 갖추고 있다. 이를 통해 학습과 환경, 체험이 결합한 지속가능관광 프로그램을 개발하겠다는 구상이다.

이어진 종합 토론에서는 권선필 목원대학교 행정학과 교수가 공동체 중심의 지속가능관광 활성화 방안’을 주제로 발제한 후 관광 전문가, 시민들과 지속가능한 관광 생태계 조성을 위한 지방정부와 시민의 역할 등 다양한 의견을 나눴다.

권 교수는 “지속가능관광 생태계 조성의 핵심은 지역주민의 참여”라며 “지속가능한 관광이 성공적으로 정착하려면 지역 주민이 관광 모델의 주체이자 수혜자로 적극 참여할 수 있는 기반을 마련해야 한다”고 강조했다.

박승원 광명시장은 “진정한 지속가능한 관광은 지역 고유의 자원과 가치를 지키면서도 시민과 지역이 함께 성장할 수 있는 구조를 만드는 것”이라며 “전문가와 시민의 의견을 충분히 반영해 ‘광명형 지속가능관광’ 모델을 체계적으로 개발해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
