지난 14일 김병수 시장을 비롯한 김포도시관리공사 사장, 관계 공무원들이 참석하여 ▲노선 대안 등 기술 검토 ▲수요 및 경제성 분석 등 서울9호선 김포 연장을 위한 최적방안 등에 대해 논의했다.

이번 용역은 서울9호선과 서울5호선 김포연장을 연계한 노선 도입의 최적안을 마련하기 위한 것으로, 지난해 8월 착수보고회를 개최하고 올해 말 제5차 대도시권 광역교통시행계획(‘26~‘30) 신규사업으로 신청할 예정이다.

김병수 김포시장은 “서울9호선 김포연장 사업성이 충분히 확인되었으므로 ‘9호선연장’의 꿈을 이루기 위해 제5차 대도시권 광역교통시행계획에 반영될 수 있도록 최선을 다 할 것이고, 우리 김포시민의 교통편의를 최우선으로 노선안을 계획할 것”이며, “김포시가 추진하는 철도사업이 차질없이 계획대로 이루어 질 수 있도록 국토부, 기재부, 서울시 등 정부부처와 적극 소통하는 등 모든 행정 역량을 동원하겠다”라고 밝혔다.
