[브레이크뉴스경기남부=오산 이귀선기자] 오산시 양산동에 중학교 부재로 인해 지역 학생들이 인근 화성시로 통학을 해야 했던 번거로움이 해소 될 전망이다.

27일 시에 따르면 학생의 통학구역 조정 및 과밀학급 해소를 위해 추진하고 있는 (가칭)양산1중학교, 세교2-3일반계고등학교에 대한 교육부 중앙투자심사(이하 중투심) 결과 확정됐기 때문이다.

이에 따라 시는 교육부 중투심 통과를 계기로, 오는 2027년 3월 개교를 목표로 학교 설립을 위한 절차에 돌입한다.

양산동의 경우 중학교 부재로 인해 지역 학생들이 인근 화성시로 통학을 해야만 하는 등의 애로가 있었기에 지속적으로 학교설립 요구가 있었던 곳이다. 

시는 양산1중 설립을 위해 2022년 8월 사업시행자와 학교부지 매입 협약 체결하는 등의 적극행정을 펼쳐온 바 있으며, 이번 학교 신설에 따라 양산동 지역 청소년들이 근거리 통학권을 확보하게 됐다.

특히 이번 사업의 경우 이권재 시장과 주무부서 공직자들이 민선 8기 출범 직후 지역 주민들과의 소통 과정에서 통학구역 조정 및 과밀학급 해소에 대한 건의를 청취한 이후로 큰 관심을 갖고 추진해 왔었다.

윤석열 정부가 120대 국정과제 중 교육분야에서 국가교육책임제 강화로 교육격차를 해소하겠다는 기치에 발맞춰 교육청과 오산시가 함께 의미있는 협업을 이뤘다는 평도 나온다.
