[브레이크뉴스경기남부=수원 이귀선기자] 경기도 남부자치경찰위원회와 북부자치경찰위원회(이하 위원회)는 도민의 기대에 부응하는 치안서비스를 제공하기 위해 자치경찰 업무용 차량을 지원한다고 밝혔다.

2일 경기도에 따르면 그동안 대부분 자치경찰은 업무용 공용차 부족으로 개인차량을 이용해 왔다. 또 기존 순찰 차량이나 사고조사차는 112신고 등 현업근무로만 활용할 수 있어 교통시설 현장 조사, 민원 현장 점검 등을 위해 추가적인 차량이 필요하다는 현장의 목소리가 제기돼 왔다.

이에 위원회는 6억 9천만 원을 투입해 경기남부경찰청과 경기북부경찰청에 각 30대씩 친환경 전기차 60대를 임차 방식으로 지원한다.

자치경찰 업무 차량은 성폭력, 가정폭력, 아동학대의 예방 및 피해자 보호 업무를 수행하는 여성·청소년 부서와 교통 사고 다발 지점 및 교통 민원 처리 업무를 수행하는 교통 부서에 5월부터 배정될 예정이다.

자치경찰위원회 관계자는 “2022년 기준 8만 913건에 달하는 가정폭력·학대 사건의 피해자 보호 활동을 강화하고, 3만 1,010건에 이르는 교통시설 민원의 현장 조사를 활성화하기 위해 업무 차량을 추가 배치한다.”라고 말했다.

이 같은 업무 차량의 추가지원으로 그간 개인차량으로 현장 조사 활동을 수행하던 경기도권 자치경찰 부서 경찰관들의 고충도 상당 부분 해소될 전망으로, 이는 ’21년7월 시도별 자치경찰위원회 출범 이후 전국 최초로 다수의 자치경찰 전용 차량을 지원하는 사례이다.

위원회는 ‘경기도자치경찰’ 고유의 차량 랩핑 디자인을 제작해 전체 차량에 부착·운행함으로써 경기도 전역에서 자치경찰의 친근한 이미지와 자치경찰의 역할을 주민에게 인식되도록 할 구상이다.
